Prize winners in no less
than 7 International Chamber Music Competitions in the
space of 5 years, the Carducci Quartet has quickly
become recognised as one of Europe's top young string
quartets. Prizes include 1st prize at the 2004 Kuhmo
International Chamber Music Competition in Finland, and
other major awards at the Bordeaux, London, Osaka and
'Charles Hennen' competitions. Most recently, they were
winners of the Concert Artists Guild International
Competition in New York.

back the flautist Adam Walker. Since
his
last visit, Adam has been selected for
representation by
YCAT
and
performed in a number of
high profile concerts,
receiving excellent reviews. As Sally
Pryce is unable to play for us this time, he
will be joined by Lucy Wakeford (a former YCAT
artist).

Lucy Wakeford is Principal Harpist of the
Philharmonia Orchestra and also has a busy solo
and chamber music career. She is also the
harpist for the Nash Ensemble

the age of 16 Katie from Canada won the prestigious
Grand Prize at the Canadian Music competitions in
Montreal. Victoria is a former New Zealand Young
Musician of the Year. Both have successful solo careers
and also play together in the award winning
Barbirolli
Quartet.

Jennie-Lee Keetley gave our Countess of Munster recital
during the 2004-5 season to great acclaim. We are
looking forward to welcoming her back as part of the
Canteloube Trio. The Trio was formed in 2003 and its
members are now graduates of the Royal College of Music
who combine careers in chamber and orchestral work with
education and outreach work. The members of the group
regularly perform and tour with some of the country's
leading professional orchestras and ensembles.

Magazine as ‘one of the finest British pianists of his
generation’ Charles Owen makes a welcome return to SVAM,
this time as a soloist. Charles Owen’s recordings
include two solo discs of works by Janáček
and Poulenc and a recording of cello and piano
sonatas by Brahms and Schubert, with Natalie Clein,
which won a Classical Brit Award in 2005. A more recent
recording, again with Natalie Clein, features works by
Rachmaninoff and Chopin. Charles Owen is a professor at
the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Hawkins:
‘Renaissance Art in Venice – the influence of Northern
Europe’
Mary Hawkins
has lectured in Art History for many years, working in
Further and Adult Education, and for the Centres of
Lifelong Learning of the Universities of Cambridge and
Essex, and tutoring extensively for the Open University.
She regularly takes groups round the Fitzwilliam Museum,
Cambridge and all the London public galleries, and leads
study tours to Italy and Holland and other European
countries for several specialist organisations.
The
lecture is included in the SVAM season ticket

The Badke Quartet, formed
in 2002, is widely recognised as one of Britain’s finest
young string quartets. The players are graduates of the
Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College and alumni
of the Britten-Pears School. They gave their Wigmore
Hall debut in June 2008. Last year the quartet won the
1st prize and the audience prize at the Melbourne
International Chamber Music Competition and was
awarded the
Senior Leverhulme Chamber Music Fellowship at the Royal
Academy of Music.
